Christmas In Gaslamp
I can’t believe we are just 4 days away from Christmas and 10 days away from the New Year. We are in the home stretch of the holiday season and if you’re anything like me, the idea of cooking a huge meal just seems like a daunting and unnecessary task. So this year I’ve decided to let the professionals do the cooking and the dishes. Route 29 has a wonderfully delicious 3-course Christmas Menu and one of the best wine selections around. I’m a sucker for a Tuna Tartare and I sure am glad I began with this dish. Each bite was more refreshing than the last and the taro root added the perfect amount of texture. When it comes to octopus I’d say I’m a pretty tough critic being that I’ve enjoyed it all over the world. However, Route 29’s octopus is hands down the best in the city! It was just the most tender and perfectly seasoned piece I’ve ever had the pleasure of sinking my fork into. Lamb is not a meat that I normally order, but last night it was calling my name and I answered! Medium rare and accompanied by seared scallops and butternut squash ravioli. The lamb was flavorful and prepared just right and the creamy butternut squash puree inside each ravioli was divine. Being that it’s the season of “treat yourself” I couldn’t resist indulging in a little dessert. Butterscotch Budino for the win and man what a win it was! A beautiful gold cup filled with custard goodness topped with whip and a strawberry. If Christmas were a dessert I’m most certainly sure it would be this. See full Christmas Menu here .
